Moonbow Child and Lifeways North America

A Warm Approach to Early Childhood

At Moonbow, we believe childhood should not be unnecessarily stressful.  Children are developing rapidly in their existence, and science has proven that core development in the earliest years sets up strong futures! For this reason, we have chosen Lifeways as our training program for all caregivers and staff.  Have you heard of it?  If not, you’re in for a treat!

Lifeways practices are based upon the fundamental need for relationship-based care (bonding and continuity), neurological research, and recognition of living arts (domestic, nurturing, creative and social arts) as central to the advancement of children’s social, emotional, and intellectual skills.

We are committed to developing the head, heart, and hands of the children in our care. Our daily rhythms are inspired by Waldorf education, with a whole-child approach.  From birth, children soak in any information presented to them, even if you don’t see it right away, and it contributes to the core development of their future self.

Studies show that children learn best through routines and imitation.  Aligned with Lifeways principles, we have created a space where children feel comfortable knowing what’s next and an environment that makes imitation easy and fun.  Collaboration, self-confidence, self-worth, and communication, are all essential skills that lay a strong foundation for greater growth, and our rhythms provide the opportunity to hone these skills through mixed-age activities infused with nature-based play.

At Moonbow, a curriculum is replaced with a “rhythm” that guides the day-to-day movements.  Activities flow like the act of breathing.  It may sound strange, but think about it!  Even as adults, group activities are balanced with individual time.  Why wouldn’t children thrive with the same opportunity?  It balances their energy and gives them the freedom to explore their own limitations.  You will hear us refer to our activities as In-Breath (concentration-based tasks where the child is working alone, i.e. painting) and Out-Breath (group time, story, or collaborative work).  This may sound silly, but the comfort of knowing their next move presented with the power of choice creates space and builds confidence in themselves.

Just like the rhythm of the day, we follow the rhythms in nature throughout the seasons!  Building and crafting with open-ended materials takes imaginative play to new heights! Rock art with nature prints, sensory play, watercolor expression, storytelling, and domestic arts are just a few examples of what goes on within our walls…of course, accompanied by lots of little voices singing those seasonal songs that are sure to fill your home!

The Moonbow model gives children a chance to slow down, without a screen, in a warm environment full of life.  The teachers and staff at Moonbow strive to be worthy of imitation, providing care with the utmost integrity and creating a sense of security for our members.  The goal of Moonbow is to create a home away from home that comes alongside you in your parenting journey, providing a safe place of support for your family.  Our flexible day and evening care options are intended to support you in creating the best life for your best people.
